Oh hell no!

A water park in Stoke on Trent, UK is having a “sisters only” event on the 9th August. I read the email I received and found out it’s an Islamic event ie there’s an Islamic dress code! I have no idea what that might be as far as a water park is concerned, but hell no! This is Britain. We are a tolerant welcoming nation, people are welcome to come here from all over the world, but don’t come here then tell us our values are wrong! If they’re so wrong then why come here in the first place? Go somewhere they have the values you value.

I don’t care what someone’s religious beliefs are, I don’t care how they dress, but this event (even though it’s probably a one off) is unacceptable in Britain.  Intergrate into society, don’t ghettoise yourself.

I’m very much against any application of Sharia law in Western society, but it appears you are misinformed here. There will be no mandatory Islamic dress code.

“The event will be open to women of all faiths, and bikinis will not be banned, but Muslim women will able to wear clothes covering their bodies which are not normally permitted by the park. ”

I would go further and just permit the Burkinis at all times. It makes sense to require certain body parts to be covered, it makes no sense to require any to be uncovered, bar the face (and that because the face is important for people knowing who is before them).

I’ll re-read the email they sent me then to check.

Please do – it’s somewhat strange for them to enforce a dress code on women at a women-only event, anyway. The Muslim “modesty” code is about showing stuff to men anyway?

        Or not showing stuff.
