The power dynamic. Oppressed groups have the right to gather together. Females have a right to gather as female people. So to answer you there. – it’s a world a difference. Whites are the oppressors to people of color. females are not the oppressors of trans women.

    • #2 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 2:34 pm

So you’re saying that women NEVER oppress trans people?

      • #3 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 4:07 pm

I’m saying that females are not the oppressor class in the male/female dynamic.

      • #4 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 5:34 pm

That’s a broad sweeping statement there, that has nothing to do with the original post / question. An oppressed group oppressing another oppressed group simply isn’t right.

      • #5 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 6:45 pm

Females should have the right to female only space as all other oppressed groups should have a right to exclusive spaces. Females meeting together is not oppressing trans women.

      • #6 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 6:47 pm

When it’s telling trans women they’re not women then yes they are oppressing trans women.

      • #7 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 6:56 pm

If they are holding an event that are only for females, then that means only for females. What entitlement to think female only space is open to everyone.

      • #8 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 6:58 pm

Trans women are female. Trans men are male, yet neither is allowed? That’s called having your cake and eat it.

      • #9 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 6:59 pm

Trans men are usually allowed actually. Trans women are not. Trans women are male (male is a sex term.) trans men are Female (also a sex term.). Biology isn’t gender and we are talking in biological terms.

      • #10 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 7:00 pm

No, that’s not the case at all on either point.

      • #11 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 7:02 pm

It is. You can’t just ID yourself into a class who’s oppression is based on a biological reality and demand their spaces.

      • #12 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 7:04 pm

Check the rules, I have. Being trans is a genuine medical condition, why can’t you and others like you get that??? I don’t choose to be trans, no one would choose to be trans with all the hate and shit we have to deal with.

      • #13 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 7:08 pm

A medical condition still doesn’t make a male female. Why can’t you get that? You have my support in gender expression-look how you want, and more power to you for that. But don’t claim to be something you are not (female). the “trans” status it’s self is admittance to not being that biological sex.

      • #14 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 7:52 pm

This is not about what clothes I want to wear on any given day, this is about people showing each other the minimum about of respect, humanity, decency that we all need and deserve. The earth was thought to be flat till someone proved it was round you know. I’m not willing to wait around till there’s proof enough to satisfy everyone as I’ll be an old woman or long dead by then.

      • #15 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 7:59 pm

No it’s about you “identifying” as a woman and seeking entry into female only areas. Yes, lets be decent, lets respect boundaries.

      • #16 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 8:01 pm

I AM FEMALE. It’s not upto anyone else to tell me, to tell you, to tell anyone else who and what they are. Isn’t that anti- feminist anyway?

      • #17 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 8:03 pm

Feminist understand that they oppression of females is based on biological realities. It’s up to reality to tell you what you are. Blue is not red no matter how fiery it may feel. Reality is a thing. Males are not females and females are not males.

      • #18 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 8:05 pm

And who are you to say how my body works, the chemicals that went into making it and so on? Open your mind to possibilities, the world isn’t black and white but multiple shades of grey.

      • #19 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 8:07 pm

But please acknowledge that male and female are two classes of people. I’m not the one saying this- you know what a male is, so do I. Unless you are intersex the world actually is black and white when it comes to this. Imagine if white ppl demanded access to POC only spaces. This really is no different.

      • #20 by oopster74 on April 16, 2014 - 8:11 pm

No, male and female are simply how we refer to people. If you want to go the intersex route, that just proves there is no black or white, and none of us are 100% male or 100% female. We start as mix of chemicals and are subject to the conditions of pregnancy and environmental factors and too many factors to have any absolutes.

      • #21 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 8:15 pm

How can you then claim you are female if you posit that female doesn’t even exist?

      • #22 by whoiscis on April 16, 2014 - 8:18 pm

Females are an oppressed class you realizing you are essentially claiming they are not.

      • #23 by oopster74 on April 17, 2014 - 10:50 am

I’m not saying women aren’t oppressed, they are, but the situation (at least in the western world) is not as bad as people make out. Yes it’s bad, but at least it’s not as bad as places like Saudi Arabia who really have a right to complain about their treatment where they’re not even allowed to drive ffs, and I see some feminst posts (mainly radfem ones) about piddling little things by comparison.

And I meant to say male and females aren’t classes earlier, they’re biology, but I do get the point you were trying to make.

I know it’s a comedy, but watch “Undercover brother”. There is no conspiracy against women like there is against black people in the film, regardless of how it seems, attitudes by some just need to change, but attitudes take time to change.
