Sell yourself

Like a lot of single people nowadays, I’m on one or two internet dating sites.  We’ve all seen them, you upload a photo or 3, you have some that are marked as private that people have to ask permission to see, and you have a description of you, you’re interests, what you look like etc.

One thing that bugs the life out of me from so many people, is that they’re on these sites to find someone, their Miss or Mr Right, or even Miss or Mr Right Now, yet, they’ll make zero effort with the photo they choose to share.  Now I’m not talking about looks here, or putting your best clothes on, slapping on half your make up cupboard or anything, I’m just talking about making the effort to in job speak “sell yourself”.  You don’t turn up to a job interview looking like you’ve just rolled out of bed, you make the effort to look presentable (whatever that means to you).  Yet so many photos on people’s profiles just make them look like they don’t give a shit.  I’m not going to share any of these photos as that really wouldn’t be fair on those people.  Personally, I’m no good at smiling, can’t smile in photos to save my life.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve uploaded really bad photos of me just getting out of bed to my Facebook profile, but I’ve done that with a caption saying something about feeling shit and having a bad hair day.

I don’t think I’m trying to make any kind of point with this rant (as that’s what it is), I just need to get it out of my system, and now I really don’t know how to end this post, so I think I’ll take cue from the Sopranos and…

What is sexism?

Well, we should all know this one, but I bet we all define or describe it differently, so let me put my 2 cents worth and say that sexism isn’t just directed from males to females but males to males, females to females, females to males, in short, practically everyone is sexist to everyone else. How we perceive ourselves and others is based on values we’ve learned throughout our lives, through everything that has influenced us. It’s not all bad, but it’s by no way all good either, but what really ticks me off, is the biggest complainers about sexism, tend to be the biggest sexists in their own rights, and either don’t see it, or flat out deny it.

Welfare Reforms Debate?

There’s another version of this photo floating around Facebook that shows this and one where MP’s are debating their pay and expenses. There’s standing room only on the 2nd photo. Nothing more needs saying really.
